Cindy La Ferle

A nationally published journalist and photographer, Cindy divides her time between a 1926 Tudor house in Royal Oak and a 1957 Frank Lloyd Wright home in St. Joseph. When they’re not doing home repairs, Cindy and her architect husband care for several rescued pets. She’s the author of “Writing Home,” an award-winning collection of her essays. Leslie MertzLeslie Mertz

Ever curious, Leslie is a freelance science writer who has lived in eight Michigan counties, from Detroit’s famed Eight Mile Road to a rustic cabin on the state’s largest inland lake. Today, she lives Up North with her husband in a scenic spot near a branch of Au Sable River. She travels with a small tent and fly rod in her car in case she finds an interesting place to stop while traveling.


Lisa M. RoseLisa M. Rose

An herbalist and expert forager of wild foods and medicinal plants, Lisa is passionate about teaching others the hidden values of common plants most take for granted. She’s written two books on the subjects; the latest is “Midwest Medicinal Plants.” Lisa often can often be found gathering in fields around Grand Rapids. Find her at burdockandrose.com.


Chuck Warren

A licensed captain and freelance boating writer in Grandville, Chuck grew up on the New Jersey shore and spent 20-plus years working in the marine industry. He offers boat relocation services and new boat-owner instruction. He met his wife Lanie while operating a sunset cruise and followed her back to Michigan, where he has fallen for the Great Lakes.
