Cooling temperatures and changing landscapes make Pure Ludington a captivating place for recreation and relaxation in the fall. Experience the colorful magic of the season with a road trip to this quaint town on the shores of Lake Michigan, northwest of Grand Rapids.
Exciting things are lined up for the fall season here: Oktoberfest celebrations, live music, leaf peeping, boat cruises and more. Whatever you choose, it’s time to plan your weekend getaway adventure!
The Colors
The countryside of Mason County becomes a striking landscape of reds and golds, as crisp air and a new season settle into the area. And you don’t want to miss the vibrant sunsets over Lake Michigan in the fall! View brilliant leaf and sunset hues on a driving tour – or try a new vantage point on foot, from a kayak, on a bicycle or on horseback. The 500-acre Ludington State Park is a popular choice for a leisurely hike or bicycle ride, and sunsets along the rolling dunescapes of M-116 could not be more magnificent. Trek the beach, take a breath, and get some sand between your toes!
From the water, visitors might also take in the stunning fall colors with an excursion aboard the S.S. Badger carferry or the Princess of Ludington. Grab your tickets for a picturesque Lake Michigan voyage – but hurry – sailing seasons end in mid-October.
The Harvest
During your fall escape, celebrate and sample the flavors of the harvest at a U-pick farm. Open 7 days a week, Christofferson Farms offers apple picking and other fresh market items. Or take a tractor ride to an orchard to pluck your favorite apple or sunflower variety at Lewis Adventure Farms & Zoo. The on-site market features even more produce items and baked goods, and colorful pumpkins, mums and a corn maze provide the best backdrops for your Instagram snaps.
The Fun
Always a merry-making craft beer festival, Octoberfest in Downtown Ludington will be marked by celebratory beer dinners, music livestreams and two full weeks of German-themed promotions at downtown Ludington businesses, September 20-October 4. Head to the downtown district, where you will find top-notch local businesses rolling out the red carpet with chef-crafted dishes and drinks.
The Stay
In Ludington, the stay is just as much part of your experience as the activities. The summer crowds are dissipating, making it the perfect time to enjoy a relaxing weekend in this lakeshore town. And you can take advantage of fall specials being offered by Mason County hotels, cabins and bed & breakfasts including 50% off a second night stay! Snag the details here.
