When autumn sweeps into Ludington, the lakeshore transforms into a stunning canvas of golden leaves, cool breezes, and endless opportunities for outdoor adventure. From peaceful hikes to cozy evenings downtown, fall here blends natural beauty with small-town charm at every turn. And new this year, Ludington Lumber Days, promises a family-friendly celebration of the community’s lumber heritage that pairs history with fun, flavor, and entertainment for all ages.

Ludington Lumber Days: A Nod to Tradition, A Weekend of Fun

Ludington’s lumbering history runs deep, and Lumber Days, happening October 3-5, 2025 captures that spirit with activities designed to honor the past while entertaining the present. Wagon rides, guided hikes, historic home tours, and pub crawls are paired with craft beer gardens, axe throwing, wood-carving demonstrations, and more. It’s a weekend packed with activities for all ages, offering a mix of hands-on fun, cultural connections, and small-town hospitality that captures everything special about autumn in Ludington.

    Family-Friendly Adventures

For those eager to experience Michigan’s most spectacular fall colors, Ludington State Park is a must. Just minutes from downtown, this 5,300-acre treasure comes alive in autumn with vibrant hardwood forests and sweeping dune landscapes painted in gold and crimson. Hike the miles of scenic trails beneath a canopy of blazing color, or take the journey out to Big Sable Point Lighthouse, where the climb to the top rewards you with panoramic views of Lake Michigan framed by brilliant fall foliage. Paddlers can drift along the park’s quiet canoe trail, reflecting the kaleidoscope of color mirrored on the water, while families can enjoy leisurely picnics among the dunes as the season shows off its very best.

Extend Your Stay with Fall Lodging Specials

The best way to take in Ludington’s fall splendor is to linger a little longer—and this year, it’s easier than ever. From September 2 through October 31, 2025, visitors can take advantage of Ludington’s Fall Lodging Special: stay at participating properties and receive 50% off your second night (Sunday through Thursday stays). With options ranging from cozy bed-and-breakfasts to trusted hotels, you’ll find the perfect home base to relax after a full day of exploring the festival, the park, and the vibrant autumn scenery.

    Plan Your Fall Getaway

Mark your calendar, pack your favorite sweater, and head to Ludington this fall for Lumber Days. It’s where Michigan’s history, natural beauty, and small-town charm come together to create an unforgettable autumn adventure.
